Unveiling Composition Workshop

I recently had the opportunity to attend Gordon Struder's "Unveiling Composition: Discover the Masterpiece Within Your Art" workshop in Sausalito, CA. As an artist, I've always been fascinated by the power of composition to transform a simple idea into a compelling and captivating work of art. Gordon's workshop promised to delve into the secrets of masterful composition, and it certainly delivered.

A Masterclass in Composition

Gordon, a renowned artist and educator, possesses a rare ability to break down complex concepts into easily digestible insights. He began by guiding us through the fundamental principles of composition, such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, and negative space. Most of us in the class had learned all these concepts before but Gordon had us do some exercises to get us to focus and really analyze what was working and what wasn’t and why.

Hands-On Exercises and Personalized Guidance

Throughout the workshop, we engaged in a series of hands-on exercises designed to reinforce the theoretical concepts. Creating dynamic compositions through multiples: Explore the techniques of arranging, juxtaposing, and harmonizing different elements to create visually captivating and powerful compositions using multiple pieces.

One of the most enriching aspects of the workshop was the opportunity to connect with other art enthusiasts. The diverse group of participants shared a common passion for creativity, and the collaborative atmosphere fostered a sense of camaraderie and mutual support. We exchanged ideas, offered feedback, and celebrated each other's successes. And drank wine!
